Woodland Nature Journal—Tracking Changes Through the Seasons
Posted: July 14, 2016
The Woodland Nature Journal provides monthly phenology notes describing some of the natural phenomena you can see through the year, as well as observation tips and resources to help you become a “citizen scientist.” The sketches of artist and retired forester John Sidelinger are found throughout the journal, as well as some photos taken by our own Pennsylvania Forest Stewards. The journal is filled with blank pages for notes, sketches, leaf presses, or other observations you collect. Rather than serving as a single year calendar, the monthly pages simply have numbered dates so that you can use it for multiple years and compare notes. A sturdy wire binding, water-resistant cover, and thick paper make it hardy enough to take out on the trail or to your favorite woodland sitting spot.
To purchase a copy (or several), contact the Center for Private Forests at 1-800-235-9473 or 814-863-0401. The price is $20, plus shipping and handling. The journals will also be available for purchase at upcoming events hosted or attended by the Center, including the PA Forest Stewards Annual Meeting, Ag Progress Days, and the 2017 Forest Landowners Conference.
