Federal Government GIS Support

This project seeks to develop new methodologies to determine land use and land cover utilizing local GIS data. If we can prove to the EPA that locally generated land use data is economical and more accurate thnn the satellite data they currently use this may generate a large cash flow to local governments to develop GIS data.

Also know as the RGIS (Rural Geospatial Innovations in America) this project is a collaboration between eight institutions across America. The funding for this project supplements several other of the LAL’s efforts. This year we did receive special funding to investigate new community planning software such as Community Viz.
