We as a society expect forests to provide ecosystem services such as clean water, wildlife habitat, recreational opportunities, and a sustainable supply of timber and other forest products, while also maintaining visual aesthetics.
Silviculture is the operational implementation of our knowledge of forestry to meet these societal objectives.
