4-H Wildlife & Forestry Field Day, 2013

4-H Wildlife & Forestry Field Day is a state level experience for 4-H youth slated for April 20, 2013, this year!

PA 4-H Wildlife and Forestry Field Day

The first option (#1) is the "Exploratory Tract," designed for youth ages 7-11. It will include hands-on wildlife and forestry educational activities and guest speakers. This year's theme for the Exploratory Tract is "Wildlife and Forestry CSI." Come explore wildlife and forestry through many fun indoor and outdoor educational activities! No advance study is required for the Exploratory Tract.

The second option (#2) is the "PA Wildlife Habitat Evaluation (WHEP) Competition." It will offer youth, ages 12-18, a chance to participate in a wildlife habitat evaluation contest. This is an competitive event that provides a great opportunity for youth to apply their knowledge about wildlife to real life situations. There is a project book that 4-H'ers must study before coming to this event. It is available as a download by clicking here: PA Wildlife Habitat Evaluation (WHEP) Project Book, or by contacting your County Penn State Extension Office. The competitive activities for this tract are new from last year, but be sure to only this project book for your study. Four 4-H'ers, between the ages of 14 and 18 years old, will be selected to attend the 2013 National Wildlife Evaluation Event.

The third tract (#3) is the "PA Forestry Judging Competition." 4-Hers in this tract will participate in a forestry knowledge and judging competition. 4-H'ers must study before participating in this tract. There is a project book that 4-H'ers must study before coming to this event. It is available as a download by clicking here: PA Forestry Judging Project Book, or by contacting your County Penn State Extension Office. The top four teens (ages 14 years and up) will go on to participate in the 2013 National 4-H Forestry Invitational.

All attendees are encouraged to dress for the outdoors, and bring along their own bag lunch and water bottle. This event will be held rain or shine, and it can be damp and chilly in April. Lunch is NOT provided. There is no fee for the event, but all youth and adults planning to attend should sign up through their County Cooperative Extension Office. Let them know which tract your youth wish to undertake. Sign-up deadline is April 15, 2013.

Please note: Pictures may be taken at the event to be used on future web sites, in Extension slide programs, or publications. No individuals will be identified by name. If you do not wish for your child's picture to be used in this manner, please notify the person taking pictures during the event. Transportation permission, and 4-H medical forms should be completed by all youth attending the event. This is the responsibility of the county Penn State Extension personnel. These forms will not be collected at the event, but should be retained by the parent drivers or Educators attending the event.
