Pennsylvania Tree Farming Notes - Fall 2014

An update from the Pennsylvania Tree Farm Committee.

By Rich Bugher, State Administrator, Pennsylvania Tree Farm Committee

The PA State Committee undertook an extensive, yet necessary, task of updating our membership list; confirming who still owns and manages Tree Farms, as well as updating current contact information. This project has been underway for the past year and we are finally nearing a conclusion. This message is for ALL Pennsylvania Tree Farm members. Thank you if you received and returned the questionnaire the committee sent last year. If you didn’t receive or didn’t return the questionnaire, I have attempted to contact you by phone. Thank you if you have talked with me directly, left a message, or emailed me about a voice mail I may have left. For all others, those we could not call or who did not respond to our previous contact attempts, we sent you a postcard as a final effort to update our records and to keep you as an active Tree Farm member. If you responded to the postcard appeal or responded in some way, you are in good standing with the PA Tree Farm Program and you need to do nothing more. If we have not interacted in any of the aforementioned ways, we must  hear from you for you to retain your membership in the Tree Farm program. Please email the following information to Rich:

Your name, phone number, mailing address, and confirm that you still own and manage the woodlands initially enrolled into the Tree Farm program.

If you prefer to call and leave a detailed message, you can do so at (724) 977-0867. If you call, please include your email address (if you have one) so it can be included in your membership information. We are requesting your email address to communicate more efficiently with you. To this point you have received little communication from the state committee due to mailing costs. With an email database, we will be able to share valuable information that will add to your membership.

The 2014 Pennsylvania Tree Farmer of the Year award was presented to Raul Chiesa and Janet Sredy of the Becketts Run Woodland Tree Farm in Allegheny County. They received the award at the PFA annual dinner in September.

At PA Tree Farm’s Quarterly Meeting, the state committee presented a plaque to Bill and Margaret Baber thanking them for their two years of leadership as Co-chairs of the state committee. The committee also recognized Dave Steward for his many years on the state committee and as out-going Treasurer, a position he held for many years. Thanks to all three; don’t be strangers to the committee.

Area Chairman Needed on State Committee

The state committee is looking for a volunteer from the Southeast to represent that area. This area encompasses the following counties: Berks, Bucks, Carbon, Chester, Dauphin, Delaware, Lancaster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery and Schuylkill Counties. If you are interested, or know of someone that might be, please contact Bill Bow, or send an email to Rich for more information.
