Hello All,
This week was actually a busy one for me! With the holiday on Monday and a sick day on Tuesday, I had a lot to do in only three days.
I completed mortality runs on all remaining fawns. In addition, on Thursday I had the opportunity to accompany our elk biologist, Jeremy Banfield, biologist aide Avery, and Bret in an attempt to tranquilize and collar a bull elk near Karthaus.
We were fortunate enough to hear the elk bugling during the wee hours of that misty morning. It was absolutely thrilling to watch Jeremy successfully dart the elk from 42 yards away. Avery collared it like a pro, and Jeremy let me ear tag and take vitals. A truly one-of-a-kind experience.
In addition to working with elk, Brandon and I went down to the Southern study area to check on April’s remaining fawns! It was quite an adventure as I had never set foot in that study area before.
Luckily, all are still living large, and I got an up-close-and-personal experience with one of them. One little guy ran right in front of the truck as we were searching for his signal. It was a fantastic week. Hopefully next week will be as exciting.
