The 2018 PA 4-H Wildlife & Forestry Field Day is slated for April 21, 2018, and will take place in Rock Springs, PA (The Ag Progress Days Site), 12 miles south of State College, PA.  (Driving directions can be found at http://agsci.psu.edu/apd/directions/directions)  No advance preparation is necessary for 4-H participants.  Below is more information on the two options being offered this year.

The first option (#1) is the "Exploratory Track," designed for youth ages 7-11.  It will include hands-on wildlife and forestry educational activities and guest speakers.  This year's theme for the Exploratory Track is "Forest and Wildlife Science" We'll take a close look at some of the science behind finding out how wildlife and forests live and grow!  No advance study is required for the Exploratory Track. Just bring your enthusiasm!

The second option (#2) is the "Knowledge Track."  It will offer youth, ages 12-18, a chance to participate in a series of educational sessions (different every year) to increase their knowledge and skills related to wildlife and forest sciences. The sessions will bring to life the topics and content found in the 4-H wildlife and forestry projects books.  This track will educate and inspire participants to investigate these projects, natural resources, and the careers associated with them.  No preparation or prior experience with wildlife and forestry 4-H projects is required for participating. 4-H leaders and parents are welcome to attend as well.

There will be an optional interactive exam at the end of the day to assist the organizers in determining who might be prepared and interested in attending one of the National 4-H events related to these subjects. Exam questions can come from any of the PA 4-H forestry or wildlife project books including the PA Forestry Judging book and PA 4-H Wildlife Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP) book.

All attendees are encouraged to dress for the outdoors, and bring along their own bag lunch and water bottle. This event will be held rain or shine, and it can be damp and very chilly in April. There is no fee for the event, but all youth and adults planning to attend should sign up through their County Cooperative Extension Office. Let them know which tract your youth wish to undertake. Sign-up deadline is April 13, 2018.

Please note: Pictures may be taken at the event to be used on future web sites, in Extension slide programs, or publications. No individuals will be identified by name. If you do not wish for your child's picture to be used in this manner, please notify the person taking pictures during the event.
