Learn Forest and Wildlife Science Through 4-H on May 7, 2022!

The 2022 PA 4-H Wildlife & Forestry Field Day is slated for May 7, 2022, and will take place in Rock Springs, PA (The Ag Progress Days Site), 12 miles south of State College, PA.  (Driving directions can be found at online)  No advance preparation is necessary for 4-H participants.  Below is more information on the two options being offered this year.

The first option (#1) is the "Exploratory Tract," designed for youth ages 7-11. It will include hands-on wildlife and forestry educational activities and guest speakers. This year's theme for the Exploratory Tract is "Migration." Our journey will explore factors that cause wildlife species to migrate, and the effects migration has on diverse wildlife species and forests. No advance study is required for the Exploratory Tract. Just bring your enthusiasm!

The second option (#2) is the "Science Tract." It will offer youth, ages 12-18, a chance to participate in a series of educational sessions (different every year) to increase their knowledge and skills related to wildlife and forest sciences. The sessions will bring to life the topics and content found in the 4-H wildlife and forestry projects books.  This tract will educate and inspire participants to investigate these projects, natural resources, and the careers associated with them.  No preparation or prior experience with wildlife and forestry 4-H projects is required for participating. 4-H leaders and parents are welcome to attend as well. There will be an OPTIONAL interactive quiz at the end of the day to assist the organizers in determining who might be prepared and interested in attending one of the National 4-H events related to these subjects.

All Field Day attendees should dress for the outdoors; the event will be held rain or shine. They should also bring along their own bag lunch and drinks. There is no fee for the event, but youth and adults planning to attend must sign up through their County Extension Office. Let them know which tract all youth wish to undertake and their date of birth. Sign-up deadline for this event is April 29, 2022.

Please note: Pictures may be taken at the event to be used on future web sites, in Extension slide programs, or publications. No individuals will be identified by name. If you do not wish for your child's picture to be used in this manner, please notify the person taking pictures during the event. Transportation permission, and 4-H medical forms should be completed by all youth attending the event. This is the responsibility of the county Penn State Extension personnel. These forms will not be collected at the event, but should be retained by the parents, volunteers, or Educators escorting youth the event.
