He then taught forestry at Unity College in Maine for nine years and at the University of Kentucky for one year. In 1986, Steve joined the faculty at Allegany College of Maryland (ACM) in Cumberland, MD. Since 1992 he has served as the Coordinator of Forestry Programs at that institution. He was promoted to full professor in 2003.
In addition to overseeing all administrative aspects of the ACM forestry program, including student recruitment, budgets, placement, alumni activities, and faculty/staff supervision, Steve teaches eight forestry courses each year to approximately 20 students per class and is also an academic adviser/mentor to 30 students per year. He led the efforts to update the forestry curriculum and incorporate advanced technologies at ACM.
