Pennsylvanians were hiking, walking, learning, and having fun as they joined in one of the dozens of walks organized throughout the state on October 1.

On October 1, at 60 organized walks across the state and myriad other informal hikes, Pennsylvania citizens took to the woods. At the first of what we hope to become an annual event, this day of woods walks celebrated the benefits and resources Penn's Woods provides us, and gave us all an opportunity to enjoy and learn about the forests that make up the majority of land cover in Pennsylvania.

With walks occurring on private woodland, state land (Gamelands, State Forests, and State Parks), and industrial forest, at museums and education centers, on municipality-owned land, in the Allegheny National Forest, in watersheds across the city of Philadelphia, and at many more locations, myriad partners came together to highlight the vast array of values we gain from the woods and educate us about why we need to care.

With the inaugural event under our belts, we're looking ahead to 2018. October 7 is the first Sunday in October. Let's plan to take to the woods and Walk (and learn) in Penn's Woods!
